Who I Am

I am a trained counsellor with a Master's degree in Guidance and Counselling, currently in private practice. My clinical work integrates Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), complemented by insights from structural family systems theory.

Alongside individual counselling, I serve as a hotline counsellor with a suicide prevention and crisis support hotline, where I regularly support individuals experiencing significant emotional distress and crisis situations. This work has strengthened my ability to remain calm, ethical, and focused under pressure.

Before transitioning into counselling, I spent years as a senior executive in a Fortune 100 technology company. This experience gives me a grounded understanding of organisational culture, workplace dynamics, and the pressures faced by professionals — supporting my work with EAP cases and corporate clients.

Common Questions

Does going to counselling mean something is wrong with me?
Absolutely not. Seeking counselling is a sign of self-awareness and courage, not weakness. Some of the strongest, most resourceful people I know have sought counselling — not because something is "wrong" with them, but because they recognise that everyone can benefit from support at certain points in life. Think of it as maintenance for your emotional wellbeing, the same way you might see a coach or mentor for professional growth.
What is counselling? And do I actually need it?
Counselling is a collaborative process where you explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges in a safe, non-judgmental space. You don't need to be "broken" or in crisis to benefit — many people seek counselling simply to gain clarity, manage stress, navigate life transitions, or simply have a space to think out loud. If something is on your mind and you'd like support, that's enough reason to reach out.
At what point should I seek counselling?
There is no "right" time — but consider counselling when: persistent feelings of anxiety, low mood, or overwhelm are affecting your daily life; relationships or work feel stuck or difficult; you are going through a significant life change such as a breakup, loss, career shift, or relocation; you find yourself repeating patterns that no longer serve you; or even when nothing is acutely wrong, but you want to understand yourself better and live more intentionally.
What's the difference between a psychotherapist, a psychologist, and a psychiatrist?
A psychotherapist (心理輔導師) focuses on talk-based therapy, helping you explore emotions, thoughts, and behaviours through conversation — ideal for life challenges, stress, and personal growth. A psychologist holds a postgraduate degree in psychology and specialises in psychological assessment and therapy, often working with deeper mental health conditions. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication. They are not in competition — in fact, they often work together as a team. My practice collaborates with psychiatrists to ensure a holistic, well-rounded approach for clients who may benefit from both talk therapy and medical support.
Which one should I contact — a psychotherapist, a psychologist, or a psychiatrist?
If you are experiencing emotional difficulties, life stress, relationship challenges, or simply want a reflective space to think more clearly, a psychotherapist (心理輔導師) is often the best starting point. If you are unsure where to begin, feel free to reach out anyway — we can talk through it together and I can help guide you to the right support, including arranging a referral to a psychiatrist if clinically appropriate. My practice works collaboratively with psychiatrists to ensure you receive comprehensive care, whatever your situation.
What if I'm not sure if counselling is right for me?
No problem at all. You don't need to commit to anything upfront — simply reach out and we can have a brief call to understand your situation and see how I might be able to help. There's no pressure, no obligation, and no difficult questions to answer before we speak. We'll figure out together whether counselling is the right step for you, or point you to another resource if it's not the best fit.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your needs and goals. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others prefer longer-term support. We'll review progress together and adjust as needed.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes. All sessions are strictly confidential. I adhere to the ethical guidelines of the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association (HKPCA). Your privacy is respected at every stage.
How is virtual counselling different from face-to-face?
The core of counselling remains the same — it's just delivered through video. Virtual sessions offer flexibility and convenience, especially if you're busy or prefer not to travel. All you need is a stable internet connection and a private space.
Can I bring someone with me to a session?
Sessions are typically one-to-one, but if you'd like to include a family member or partner in specific sessions, we can discuss this and make appropriate arrangements.
